Welcome to the Ed Whitfield page.
Ed Whitfield was born in March 28,1878 in Kinston North Carolina. Son of Alex Whitfield and Margaret Croom. Ed married Mary Mewborne and had 3 children (Theodore Roosevelt, Vida and Rudolph) that we know about. Ed Whitfield died on July 5th 1945 in Kinston, North Carolina.
Theodore Roosevelt Whitfield was born on February 8th 1902 in Kinston. He married Lugene Ellen Green and had one child that we know about Vantile Emmanuel Whitfield. Vantile was born in Washington DC in 1930. Theodore later became Rev. Theodore R. Whitfield and married Elizabeth Wyatt Gore on May 22nd, 1954. Theodore passed away on May 10th, 1971 in Chicago, just weeks before his wedding anniversary.
Vida Whitfield was born in 1904 in Kinston. Vida had one child (Nora Lee Whitfield) in 1925 that we know about. She later became Vida Jordan. The name of Vida's husband is unknown at this time. What exactly happened to Vida and her family is unknown.
Nora Lee Whitfield. When Nora's mother Vida went away Ed and Marzella Whitfield became the caregivers of their grandchild Nora Lee until Ed's death in 1945 and Marzella's death in 1956. We do not have all of the details as to what exactly happened to Nora Lee after that, except for stories of a woman by the name of Angela Denise Davis (aka Angela Swinson) that cared for Nora Lee until her death. Angela is listed as the contact on Nora Lee's death certificate. Nora Lee Whitfield died January 23rd, 1987.
Rudolph Whitfield was born in 1906 in Kinston. Probate records of Marzella Whitfield show that he married a woman by the name of Arnetta. We suspect that Rudolph Whitfield had another first name and the name 'Rudolph' is his middle name (similar to his brother 'Theodore Roosevelt Whitfield). This could explain why we are having difficulty discovering wheat happened to him and his family. But for now, there is no other information available on what happened to Rudolph Whitfield.
We are currently looking for living descendants in the Alex Whitfield line. At this time we don't have much information, however we are still conducting research in an effort to find out more.
![]() On a recent visit to Kinston, North Carolina, we searched the Cedar Grove cemetery and found Ed Whitfield's marker. This photo was shot in August of 2004, and as you can see the year of the date of birth of Ed Whitfield is incorrect. He was born March 28 1878. |
![]() Left: Another headstone, just simply marked 'Whitfield'. We believe that this is where members of Ed Whitfield's family are laid to rest, as you can see Ed's headstone in the background. This marker is located at the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Kinston, North Carolina. |
